The Fingers of God

I was blessed with the opportunity to take this picture last July, 2001 at Maroon Bells Lake near Aspen, Colorado.  It has the distinction of being the most photographed view in Colorado, and is well deserving of it.

It Is Written . . .

No man shall view the "Face of God" or surely he will die . . .

My mind tells me this concept is in error.  I cannot comprehend that an all powerful, loving Creator of Life would withhold the Beauty of Itself, and Its love, from the created.  I believe It would surround us in Itself.  That, It has done.  We just fail to look and acknowledge.

These majestic peaks, to me, are the fingers of God shooting from the earth and pointing to the Cosmos of All That Is.  To sit before them in the Serenity of the Presence, is to understand that the "Face of God" is to be seen in whatever your eyes fall upon.  Be it a glorious mountain, a rolling sea, a towering tree, the eyes of dolphin as it leaps from the sea, even the chill in the sound of a wolf howling at the moon.  Most especially, It is found in the vision of a loved one standing before you, the tenderness and delight on the face of a child, the loyalty on the face of a friend.  And, yes, in the pain on the face of another struggling soul in the physicality of Life.  Even pain is but the Creator reaching out for love and understanding . . . acknowledgment.

So gaze about you . . . The Face of God is there, everywhere, in everything, for all who choose to see.
