Rainy Day People

by:

Susan Haley

Rainy Day People is a story of struggle and resilience. It's rooted in truth and woven into a fresh fictional tapestry that embraces all the ageless qualities and maladies innate in the human psyche. Widowed early, Amber is content, maybe complacent, in solitude. Soothed by a quirky affinity with Nature, and a trust in a larger purpose, she also has a reckless, belligerent side. Ben is an airline pilot turned successful writer caught up in the glitz of L.A. and its pitfalls at the cost of family, health, and direction. He's brilliant, crotchety, and determinedly pragmatic in the face of life's turns. They meet by chance (or was it?) and embark on a journey neither was seeking, or prepared for, culminating in an edge-of-the-seat ending that leaves the reader stunned.

About the Author

A widowed mother of two grown sons, a lover of life, nature, and adventure, Susan Haley turned a passion for the written word into a purpose and a challenge. With a published non-fiction work and promising reviews under her belt, she was fortunate enough to meet professional, award-winning writer, Robert Delany. A friendship and writing bond formed out of what was, initially, a mentoring. Rainy Day People is the heart-warming result. Susan resides in Sarasota on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Mr. Delany, to whom, the book is dedicated, passed on shortly after the completion of this work.

Love is the absolute last thing on the mind of Amber, a widow of two years who has become quite complacent with her life - that is, until she meets Ben, recovering alcoholic currently fighting cancer, among other demons from his past. Despite their instant attraction for one another, Ben struggles to open up fully to Amber, leading her on a subsequent convoluted journey of the heart as she aims to embrace his presence in her life while simultaneously coming to grips with his frequent absences from it. Along the way, she learns invaluable lessons about both him and herself, ultimately embracing the newness of a life she never actually sought.

Rich, profound, and real, Rainy Day People is a gripping, heart rending read. Drawn straight from the pages of everyday life, author Susan Haley’s vivid tale of mid-life love and heartbreak will serve as a literary reflection of the challenges confronting many of us on a regular basis - be they physical, emotional, or spiritual in nature. As such, it will not be difficult for readers to relate to the grim realities facing Amber and Ben both individually and collectively - not to mention the genuine bliss they experience together when their guards are laid down and they allow their souls to feel - and heal. In impressive fashion, Haley paints a picture of life at its rawest, where it serves as the source of both our greatest joy and pain and makes us the flawed - yet noble - human beings that we are.

Clearly crafted from the depths of her own sage soul, Susan Haley’s moving opus is a strong testament to the redemptive power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. A striking, strongly recommended read.

"I have published two poems. One was on schizophrenia (I have a related disorder) and the other was on Alzheimer's disease (my mother had it). They were published in 2006 in Auscult: The Humanities Journal of the Medical School of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One of the poems I wrote for my mother was made into a song and recorded a few years ago. Another poem I wrote is being worked into song-form now.

“The Beeples Birthday Bash”

A Kicklighter Shadow and Beeples Book

By:

Lindy Lindemann

Author, Lindy Lindemann, has set yet another precedent in her charming Kicklighter Shadow and Beeples Children’s Book series. Lindy, a highly talented poet, has applied her poetical abilities to adorable and value teaching children’s books.

The books take the children into a world of fairies and elves and little people called Beeples. The compelling messages of sharing and caring for all creatures’, great or small just permeate these adorable books. With wonderful illustrations by David White, “The Beeples Birthday Bash” is about Kicklighter Shadow, the zoo-keeping elf gathering all his friends and fairies to help him celebrate the birthday of the special Beeples who he has nurtured and cared for since they were born in dew drops on a rose.

The basic values of kindness, caring, and reaching out for dreams, which children of four through six are so open to, are illustrated in all the characters of the party goers and it’s a great event that will never be matched. I can’t imagine even an adult not being moved by Lindy’s talents as a poet and a lover of children and God’s little creatures.

Uniquely, the author provides inexpensive guides and recipes for creating a Beeples Birthday Bash for all children fortunate enough to be given this book by caring parents, grandparents and relatives. I was so touched by it; I immediately procured one for my five year old grand-niece.

The book also has pictures to color and games to play at the party that will not tax a family’s budget. I highly recommend this enchanting little Beeples Birthday Bash to anyone who cares about children, even if you donate it to schools, Sunday Schools, Pediatric Centers at hospitals or day care facilities.

Lindemann, such a charitable person, herself, is donating all proceeds from her book sales to various animal shelters, and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Fl, Inc. that funds “Our Mother’s House” which serves single mothers and their preschool children who would otherwise be homeless.

The children and the readers have been given a special gift by a special lady, Lindy Lindemann. As her editor, I’m honored to have worked with such a caring and uplifting person. Thank you, Lindy.
